What is “Malcolm in the Middle”

This show is a sitcom that shows the life of four sons and their lives with their parents. Their family is dysfunctional, but that keeps the show interesting. Three of the boys Malcolm, Reese and Dewey, played by Frankie Muniz, Justin Berfield and Erik Per Sullivan respectively, live at home while the oldest, Francis, played by Christopher Masterson is in military school. Malcolm is the brains of the family, while Reese is the instigator and isn’t very nice to his brothers. Dewey gets picked on by his older brothers, he’s the most well-behaved out of the four.

Their mom, Lois, played by Jane Kaczmarek is the one who parents the kids the most. She disciplines the kids all the time due to their rebellious behavior. Their dad, Hal, played by Bryan Cranston, does not discipline the kids as much and doesn’t step up in that respect. This is just some of the chaos that goes on in this family and why the family is so dysfunctional.

A students perspective

Whenever a show is making a return it can be very exciting. But on the flip side, it can cause some concern that it won’t live up to what the original show was. Jaydon Brown, ’25, is eager to see the “Malcolm in the Middle” family once again. To add, this is what Brown had to say about the four new episodes,

“I’m kind of on the fence about these four new episodes only because I like the original one of the series and I like the way it concluded … you also have that fear of ‘ok is it going to keep the integrity of the show or are they going to try to like add too much,'” Brown said.

More information about the new episodes

According to BBC, the following states the four episodes’ descriptions: “Malcolm and his daughter being drawn back ‘into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.'”

When the show aired, Malcolm was a kid and now that he is all grown up and has a daughter of his own, it will be interesting to see the family dynamics now and if anything has changed.

Per BBC, there is no information about a release date for the four new episodes.

Additionally, some of the returning cast members have made comments about the four-episode revival. First, Muniz made the following comments as stated by BBC.

“I have been waiting for this moment for 18 years. Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now,” Muniz said.

In addition, Kaczmarek had comments of her own.
