“The Good Doctor,” premiering on ABC September 25 at 10/9c, is a medical-drama series about Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young man with autism and Savant syndrome who gets recruited to be a surgical resident. Developed by David Shore (House) and Daniel Dae Kim (“Hawaii Five-O”, “Lost”), it will follow the journey of Dr. Murphy, played by Freddie Highmore. After having a troubled childhood, Dr. Murphy makes it to the pediatric department of a respected hospital. But not all of his colleagues show confidence in his abilities.

“Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues,” according to abc.com.

This TV show will address the social issue of how people suffering from autism and similar illnesses are being discriminated. It will also showcase what kind of challenges they have to face every day. It will help start a conversation to possibly achieve change in the way people view the issue and how people affected with such disabilities are being treated.

In addition to Highmore, the “The Good Doctor” will also feature Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzales, Chuku Modu, Irene Keng, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper and Richard Schiff.
