Spooky and seasonal destinations to visit before October ends

Halloween is a time for spooks, scares, pumpkins, costumes and all things fall-themed. Luckily, the Chicagoland area does an outstanding job at making sure there is something for every age. Here are some of our favorite local Halloween spots to see this season.

Fright Fest at Six Flags Great America – Gurnee

Every fall, Six Flags puts on a show that nobody will forget. Aside from the rides, the Halloween season offers multiple sites to see. From concerts to onsite characters, the park provides a true Hallow’s Eve environment. The famous pond in front of the merry-go-round entrance is dyed a bloody red, and decorations are brought up on rides, like an inflatable spider on the American Eagle. Ghosts, goblins and zombies lurk in the park to scare guests and set a truly frightful scene. Tickets go at about $50 if you buy in advance, that saves about $25 on a ticket bought at the park.

13th Floor Haunted House – Melrose Park

Looking to get spooked over Halloween season? 13th Floor in Melrose Park has you covered. 13th Floor has been seen on MTV, USA Today, Huffington Post and Travel Channel for its outstanding performance and history. Tickets go at about $33 per person on the website, and the event runs until Halloween night each year. 13th Floor is not recommended for children under the age of 12 for its intense thematic elements.

Sonny Acres Farm – West Chicago

A pumpkin patch is a must for your fall activities in Illinois, and Sonny Acres may be your go-to patch. Located in West Chicago, just east of Route 59, Sonny Acres is a fall fest full of pumpkins, squashes, corn stalks and gourds. Sonny Acres also hosts a farmer’s market, costume shop, carnival rides and a spook shed. Not only a fall activity, the farm also hosts Christmas tree sales in the winter. A 2-in-1 deal located in the heart of the northwest suburbs for all, and admission is completely free to enjoy.

Richardson Adventure Farm & Corn Maze – Spring Grove

You are probably wondering what makes Richardson stand out from all the dozens of corn mazes within the Chicagoland area? First off, Richardson happens to be the world’s largest corn maze. It is nearly 10 miles long and is wrapped around over 28 acres of corn. It is family friendly and also includes multiple activities including cornfield concessions, campfire rentals, a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, ziplining, zorbing and more. Since there are so many activities alongside the corn maze challenge, you are bound for a day of never-ending fall fun for the Halloween season. Admission is $16 for ages 13 and older, $13 for kids between 4-12 and free for kids 3 and under.

The days of October are dwindling, and there’s only so much time left to visit these spooky and fall-themed attractions.
