North Central played host to the sixth College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) Special Olympics where attendees played a game of bocce and gathered for lunch.

The CCIW SAAC also announced the 2017-18 Merle Chapman award winners for each CCIW school during the luncheon on Tuesday. From North Central, women’s basketball player Michaela Reedy, ’18, and men’s soccer player Ivan Bohorquez, ’19, were selected. Both are members of the SAAC at North Central.

The CCIW said that the award is named after Merle Chapman, former Millikin football coach and athletic director and second commissioner of the CCIW, and “identifies the student-athletes that best exemplify the traits that Chapman displayed and encouraged during his three-plus decades of service as teacher, coach and mentor to the athletes, coaches and administrators of the CCIW. Those traits are loyalty, enthusiasm, leadership, sportsmanship, and a commitment to academic, athletic and personal excellence.”
