The days of 80-degree weather may become more of a rarity, but that does not mean that all outdoor activities need to come to a halt. Fall is a season where the temperature gets cooler and the leaves change color, but it also means the beginning of fall activities. Here are five fall activities to take part in this season.

1.  Apple Picking

One of the classic yet favorite fall activities is apple picking. Apples are a great fall food that can serve as great snacks or baked into delicious apple pies, apple fritters, or even apple bread! Apple picking is always a great way to enjoy the outdoor weather of fall while picking out some delicious treats for you and your friends. There are numerous apple orchards around such as County Line Orchard, Tanner’s Orchard or Jonamac Apple Orchard. If you can’t get to an orchard you can always “pick” your apples at Jewel or Target.

2.  Getting involved with Athletics

Fall is the season of watching numerous sports on TV such as football. However, you do not always have to watch the game to enjoy the sport. Fall weather is nice enough to go outside with your friends or family and toss around a football or kick a soccer ball around. Why not even create a sports party with family and friends? You can set up a TV to play the game, bring a grill for cooking meals, and sports equipment to play a game or two out in the open fields. If you want to keep it more low key head out to Jefferson Plaza with some friends and enjoy the nice cool air while playing a scrimmage of a game.

3.  Fall Walks

For a more leisurely activity you can always go for walks along the Riverwalk or through the Naperville community. Fall is a chance to enjoy nature and all of its beauty with the crisp air blowing through all of the trees and their vibrant colors. Walks are a chance to clear one’s mind from all of the stress that may occur during school or even for a chance for a change of scenery. Besides the weather is nice enough for a walk because it is neither freezing cold nor deathly hot out.

4.  Pumpkin Carving

A tradition of fall but one that never gets old. Pumpkin carving is a chance to show off your creativity and makes for a lovely decoration in your dorm room, house, or apartment. You can keep the pumpkin a classic Jack O’ Lantern with a face, or you can go for a more unique approach. Google offers a chance for you to show off your pumpkin carving skills with print outs such as Star Wars theme, Disney theme, Halloween classics, and many others!

5.  Leaf Piles

Even though we are all in college, there is nothing wrong with jumping into a pile of leaves. Leaves can be located all around campus and in parks around Naperville. You really don’t need a rake per say to make a leaf pile. You and your friends can gather together and brush some leaves with your feet or pick some up and form a pile. Once the pile is formed have fun! Leaf jumping is great fun no matter your age!
