There has been much anticipation with the next release of apples mobile operating system for the iPhone over the past few months. There was endless speculation of what it would allow users to do, that they couldn’t do with previous versions of the operating system.
The new operating system IOS7 was released to the public on Wednesday Sept. 18. The upgrade to apples iPhone came free to all users and has received mixed reviews. Some people seem to be satisfied with the upgrade, while others continue to be stumped by the new software or skeptical to upgrade.
The iPhone and IOS seem to be popular among the college community. Some North Central college students have taken the plunge and updated their mobile devices, while others are hesitant to do so from what they have heard through friends who have upgraded. The new OS comes with an entirely new look and feel. Common functions like closing apps have been revamping making it easier and more efficient for users to quickly exit their applications. The control center has been added for ease of use to quickly access features like: airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a flashlight, and quick access to apps like the calculator and clock.
Some NCC students have embraced this change and enjoy the new features and quick access to their apps.
I updated to IOS7,” junior Paige Grady said. “I like it. The new color scheme and icons have a nice smooth feel to them. The new control center and notification center make using the phone a lot simpler and give you quick access to things you often use such as the flash light and calculator.”
Junior Maggie Hussey enjoys the new features and looks of IOS7 too.
“I like it because of its updated and modern looks,” Hussey said. “The new apps are very sleek. My favorite new feature is closing out apps. When you double clicked before you had to press and hold to close them out. With the new operating system you swipe them away. It’s very entertaining.”
Junior Marc DesLauriers is enjoying the new OS as well but isn’t satisfied with the new look.
“I feel as if the new features really separated the iPhone from what it originally was and propelled it to bigger and better things,” DesLauriers said. “Although the new features are great the controls are a little hard to get use to. I don’t really like the new color scheme.”
Kelsey Feiden enjoys the new Apple operating system.
“I do like it,” Feiden said. “I especially like how it organizes your pictures and how everything looks crisper.”
Not all NCC students with iPhones were willing to upgrade their phone to the latest mobile OS software and embrace the new changes and features.
Senior Jason Krug is hesitant to update his iPhone.
“I haven’t updated yet,” Krug said. “I am waiting to hear if other people say it is worth it or not.”
Senior Jeremy rushing had similar feelings regarding upgrading his phone.
“I haven’t upgraded yet,” rushing said. “I hear from my friends who have, that they’re not very satisfied.”
Junior Hannah Jurik’s phone is not ready for the new IOS7 software, and neither is she.
“I haven’t updated because there is not enough space on my phone,” Jurik said. “My mom downloaded it and she doesn’t like it.”
There were mixed reactions on NCC’s campus. Those who upgraded seemed to enjoy the new features Apple has rolled out with the new operating system, while others remain skeptical of what the new software will do on their phones.
