‘Lone Survivor’: Not just another war movie

Lone Survivor, starring Mark Wahlberg and Taylor Kitsch, was released this past weekend with an overwhelming turnout in the box office topping at $84,857 according to the International Movie Database Records. The film industry is starting the new year off with a bang by bringing a real life war story to the big screens. Lone Survivor recounts the events of a failed mission known as “Operation Red Wings” on June 28, 2005. Members of SEAL Team 10 were given commands to capture or kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shahd.

Mark Wahlberg plays Marcus Luttrell who is the lone survivor of the mission (no spoiler there since he is the subject of the movie poster). He and the other men are part of the team makes a decision that brings forth a painful outcome for each one of them. Every soldier fights to the very end with an unbelievable amount of courage.

Lone Survivor is not just another war movie to add to your collection. It speaks to something greater than action on the battlefield. From the courage and brotherhood of SEAL Team 10 to the unexpected alliance who saved Marcus Luttrell’s life, you will truly learn what humanity can do for one another in their time of need.

I was brought to tears and felt a rally of emotions through the entirety of the film. As a civilian seeing Lone Survivor, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the men that died, but the truth of it all is those men, and all of the other men and women out there that are soldiers, are trained to put their life on the line for their country. They are trained to protect us and stand by each other’s sides. The story of “Operation Red Wings” may have been acted out on screen but the events are real and the men that died and the one that survived fought with courage and died with honor.

This isn’t a movie you just decide to see but a movie that you must see.
