North Central College hosted the annual OUTreach Night of Noise Drag and Talent show on Monday, April 21.

The purpose of the show was meant to break the day of silence, which commemorates those of the LGBTQ society who are pressured to remain silent about their sexuality.

“(The show) is part of tradition, part of night of noise, and is to commemorate those who have been silenced,” said President Diana Van Oyen. “At night we break that silence.”

While the day of silence and the reason behind hosting the show are serious, that didn’t stop the performers or audience from having fun.

“We have a lot of fun, we can just be ourselves,” said senior Darian Peterson. “It’s like a talent show but you don’t actually have to be good at anything.”

“It’s fun because it lets you express yourself, you get to hang out with friends, and eat pizza,” said senior Robin Higgins.

OutReachLGBTQ2The show consisted of a number of performances, which included dancing, lip-syncing, acting, and even some ukulele playing.

The show opened with every one of the performers dancing and lip-syncing the different parts in “Time Warp” and ended with everyone dancing and lip syncing the song “Gay Bar.”

Getting into the show isn’t that difficult.

“Anyone can perform,” said Peterson. “They have to get in touch with the members (of OUTreach).”

Performers can also choose what they would like to do.

There wasn’t a large amount of performers in this year’s show. Many of them did more than one performance, and switched who they performed with.

Laughter could be heard throughout the entire show, making it clear that the audience was enjoying the performance regardless of the quantity of performers.

“It was a unique performance that everyone should attend,” said sophomore Olivia King.
