When winter approaches we find ourselves stuck inside, feeling “frozen” due to the chilling tundra outdoors. However, this year, try taking a new approach to the weather outside and enjoy the winter wonderland around you. Here are five ways to make the most out of the upcoming winter term on a college budget.

1.  Grab a cup of hot cocoa and take a walk under the many Christmas lights tagged onto the trees throughout the city of Naperville. From Santa’s Workshop to the traditional red and green twinkle lights there is always a vast variety and something for everyone.

2.  For the chillier seasons Millennium Park is home to a free ice skating rink. Although the actual skate rental is a small fee, the view and atmosphere surrounding the rink is one of a kind.

3.  Make the time to bake your favorite holiday treat. Whether it’s using an old family recipe or looking to Pinterest for new ideas, there is nothing better than pairing your favorite treat with some hot cocoa. Don’t forget to watch your favorite holiday movie while snacking on your treats!

4.  If you love animals and holiday decor, the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago is the place to be this winter season. Complete with fun activities throughout and over-the-top decorations and lights that are blanketed around the whole zoo, this free exhibit is one you won’t want to miss.

5.  Decorate your dorm room, apartment, or home! Too often does winter feel like a drag and what better way to get in the holiday spirit than to create and decorate your living space? Pinterest is a great place to start for thrifty ideas to turn a blank, boring room into a cozy go-to to hermit from snowstorms and freezing temperatures.
