On Sunday, February 1, much of the Chicagoland was buried in during Super Bowl Sunday due to a massive snowfall throughout the day.

The snowfall began on Saturday, January 31 in the evening and continued throughout the evening on February 1.

The snow fell its heaviest on Sunday in the afternoon and brought about an inch of snow per hour.

The Chicago Tribune stated that this blizzard was the 5th worst blizzard in Chicago history with a majority of areas covered in more than 19 inches of snow.

Naperville recorded a snowfall of about 16 inches from the snowstorm.

The Naperville Sun reported that residents must be patient while trying to return to the roads. The Naperville blog posted that snow plows are out and started Sunday evening with plowing the community. Crews are also working on removing tree limbs that fell in the roads due to the massive winds.

The downtown Naperville section was a ghost town on Sunday as numerous shops closed early and many residents stayed in their homes.

North Central College was one of numerous schools in the area to cancel classes and close offices for the day. Students received their first text on Sunday around 11:30 a.m. stating that the library was closed and the shuttle services stopped. Kaufmann dining hall remained open for campus residents.

Students received a text around 6 a.m. on Monday, February 2 that stated all day-time classes are cancelled and offices closed. Evening classes, however, will start back up at 5 p.m. on Monday.

The storm was classified as a blizzard in the evening because it had the following classifications: winds up to 35 miles per hour or more at times, some hours had visibility less than a quarter mile due to snow, and snow accumulated quickly in a short amount of time.

According to the National Weather Service this snowfall was the snowiest February day in the history of Chicago, but the fourth snowiest calendar day.

This Snowpocalypse part II is topping the list of most snowfall but falls behind the third on record. The Snowpocalypse part I of 2011 covered the Chicago land area with more than 21 inches of snow, nearly 2ft. in just a short amount of time.
