Christina Kadine Carstens Salceda (‘14)

Christina Kadine Carstens Salceda, who graduated from North Central in 2014, was in Paris on the day of the terrorist attacks to watch her younger sister compete in the Paris Open for Taekwondo.

“I woke up and realized I was hearing sirens and woke my mom up so we could find out what was going on,” Salceda said.

She was in front of Notre Dame at 8:30 p.m., only hours before the attack. Currently, she is in a hotel with her mother and sister, about 20 minutes from the city center.

“I have been hearing ambulances constantly for the past four hours or so. This is horrific.”

Morgan Mason (‘17)

Other students were in the area or have family in the area. Morgan Mason is a student in the area who was taking refuge in the Generator Hostel, which is 20 minutes from the attacks. Mason traveled to London for study abroad but is currently in Paris.

Q: “How does this affect the rest of your trip, flights, etc.?”
A: “I honestly have no idea at this time on what the plan of action is over the next couple of days. We are getting information as it comes in. Right now we are focusing on staying safe and inside, and ceaselessly praying for all those affected by these horrible attacks.”

Q: “What was the original plan?”
A: “I am here with two friends on a weekend guided tour through the city.”

Thomas Ragot is a junior at North Central from France

Q: “Do you know people in Paris, or have family in that area?”
A: “Yeah, I have my cousin and friends over there. That’s horrible. They shot with (an) AK-47 assault rifle and threw (a) grenade in the public at a concert.”
