Who will win the Powerball jackpot?

Tonight is the night that millions have been looking forward to. The Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated record-breaking value of $1.5 billion. That’s roughly $930 million in cash. Acquiring a vast amount of wealth, especially of that magnitude, is something many people only dream about. But, for one lucky winner that dream could soon become a reality.

It’s hard to say who will exactly win the jackpot; the odds of winning don’t look too good. According to the official Powerball website, there’s about a one in 292,201,338.00 chance of matching all six numbers drawn. According to the American Cancer Society, the chances of developing stomach cancer are 1 in 149.

In other words, it’s easier to get cancer than it is to win. Despite these low odds, tickets are still getting sold at an alarming rate. People still want to believe that they have a chance. Among these people are some North Central College students whom shared with us what they would do if they won the money.

“I would start at business, so I could profit from my profit.” – Jared Toops (’17)

“Pay for grad school and travel.” – Kayla Koenig (’16)

“Buy a house, travel and start a charity. Don’t ask for what, because I don’t know.” – Ali Ramas (’16)

“Start a charity and pay for my student debt.” – Bridget Parpet (’16)
