‘Bad hombre’: band, brand or card game?

During the third and final debate of the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump said: “We have some bad hombres here, and we’re going to get them out.” I took a closer look at what that might mean.

U.K. cover band Bad Hombre said they did have plans to come to the U.S. but that other members of the band will be at SXSW in Steve Winch and the Inception.

“Would you believe we were planning to tour Illinois and Wisconsin next year and this weekend we have a warm up gig in Scotland, just 150 miles from Trump International Golf Course!” Steve Winch said through Facebook.

“Who would have thought that our bass player’s unpaid speeding ticket from 2003 would have caused Mr. Trump such concern, but as we say in Bad Hombre, anything can (and will) happen!”

In checking out Bad Hombre’s covers of “God Save the Queen” and “I Fought the Law,” I found that they might not be as good as the originals, but the punk spirit was still evident in their performance, with the drummer wearing a Queen of England mask. I personally would hope that we “get them out” to the U.S. for some tour dates.

The Bad Hombre Clothing Company is where I take some issue. While artist Floyd Monroy’s designs are self-described as “eye-catching,” they are not appealing. The top sale of the week is a tank top which reads “Practice hard or go home” with two bats and a ball in a jolly roger- like design.

In reality there are more options than the tank top suggests and life is not so black and white as either practicing hard or going home. It may be strategic to take a slow day. I would not say we need to “get them out,” but encourage people to think beyond Bad Hombre Clothing & Apparel. Bad Hombre Clothing & Apparel did not respond to requests for comment on Donald Trump’s statements.

Some people also contest that Trump’s comment might refer to Ombre, the Spanish card game. In this case I would agree with Trump in getting out all the bad games of Ombre, to replace them with exciting games of Ombre. Ironically the game involves establishing a Trump Suit through bidding.
