Miley Cyrus leans into her youth with ‘Younger Now’

It is not uncommon for an artist to return to their roots at some point in their careers, usually with a more mature mindset. For Miley Cyrus, this return has proven to be nothing but beneficial for her with the release of her new album “Younger Now.”

Miley’s fans remember how, not too long ago, she revealed her edgy side with 2013’s “Bangerz,” followed by the experimental “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz” in 2015. With this exploration came a new style that was lewd, bold and definitely unapologetic in both her music and persona. Earlier this year, however, we got a taste of her slow drift from the pop genre and back toward her roots in Nashville.

Just by looking at the album artwork, from the colors and font, there’s a very intentional vintage look to this album that looks like it could be tucked away at a record store as a hidden gem. The title track begins with an acoustic guitar that builds to a powerful chorus on how she feels so much younger now as if she is feeling like she is where she is supposed to be.

Following this track is the single “Malibu,” released this past May, that has some serious wanderlust vibes. If there is any way to accurately describe this album, it would that it is as versatile as Miley herself. “Younger Now” seemingly shifts genres with each song, from country (“Rainbowland” feat. Dolly Parton) to blues (“Week Without You”), exploring different emotions from optimism to heartbreak and everything in between. This album has something for everyone.

Regardless of how you have felt about Miley Cyrus, this album is her attempt to be completely honest with herself and where she has come from.
