“Stranger Things” is all the buzz

The addicting Netflix series, “Stranger Things” has just released its second season, and it is just as popular, if not more, than the first season. According to Nielsen’s ratings, in just three days, 15.8 million people had watched the first episode of the second season.

The show is set to take place in Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980s which, according to Amanda Waz, ’19, “gives off a nostalgic feeling.” Aired in 2016, the first season consists of a series bizarre events including the disappearance of Will Byers. His family and friends search tirelessly for him as a number of paranormal events occur along the way. It turns out he was taken by a mysterious creature and thrown into an alternate dimension, putting the world in an upside-down perspective.

Another character, known as Eleven, is also a part of the supernatural world as she has psychokinetic abilities. She is found in the woods when Wills’ friends are looking for him. After the occurrence of many more happenings, Will is eventually returned to his home, proceeds to cough up a slug-looking being and Eleven is sucked into the world which Will was being held captive in.

According to Polygon, “’Stranger Things 2′ is a full-blown, stand-alone sequel to the show’s first season.” The same characters that everyone fell in love with stayed into the second season. In this season, the group is reunited with Will, yet something still doesn’t seem right. Will seems to be having forms of aftereffects from being in the alternate dimension. Eleven is still on a mission to discover her identity and unfortunately, by the end of the last episode, she still seems to have unanswered questions. Above all, we can still count on the season ending with a classic ’80s song.

Viewers buzzed about “Stranger Things” last summer, and many stuck around to watch the second season. Meghan Biehl, ’21 says “you get emotionally connected to the characters because of how well-written the show is as a whole.” This phenomenon has hit the top of the charts on Netflix and now, fans are wondering, will there be a third season?
