Housing goes digital for the 2018-19 school year

No longer will students have to crowd into Upper WAC and wait with bated breath to see if they made the cut for their dorm of choice next year. Housing is going digital.

Going on now, students are able to go to https://noctrl.erezlife.com/ to select their housing for the next academic year. Students can choose from traditional dorm halls like Res/Rec or suite-style halls like Schneller and New Hall.

The process is simple: just log in with your school username and email using the link, then fill out a housing profile and a roommate questionnaire to apply. After you’ve finished those steps, housing will send you a confirmation email with your application. The email then will give you the option to retain your current room as long as 50 percent of the current residents elect to retain. The only rooms that are not able to be retained are Geiger, Rall, Seager, Ward and Patterson Halls since they house first-year students or special programs.

Next, you’re able to fill out a roommate profile so students can search you and select you to be their roommate, or you can simply fill out who you’re going to live with next year. Just make sure they put you down, too.

All of this needs to be done before the end of the week so students can be assigned their selection date and time via email during week 4. Week 4 will also have the traditional ResLife Open House event where students are able to tour upperclassmen dorms from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18.

Weeks 5 and 6 begin the actual selection process. During week 5, students are able to “favorite” the available rooms they are interested in before week 6 when the official selection takes place. All selection dates will happen between Monday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 2. ResLife will be available during these days in their office to assist students with the selection process.

Along with these changes to housing, gender-inclusive housing will be introduced next academic year in Kimmel Hall. This means that any students, regardless of gender, are able to live in the same suite if they elect to do so.

Graduate students will also have a special set of rooms put aside in New Hall for those interested in living on campus. ResLife will also offer “themed living and learning communities” in various dorms. The College Scholars program will be housed in Ward and Patterson will be home to International LLC — both of which require additional applications.

Applications for an international roommate are due this coming Monday, April 16. Res/Rec will house engineering students and Shimer students will have a community set aside in Kimmel for on-campus residents.

With the subtraction of Naper Place last year, some students worry that there won’t be enough housing options as enrollment has typically continued to grow every year. ResLife said they “guarantee housing to any interested returning student who applies.”

In the unlikely event the College runs out of available spaces during housing selection, students will be placed on an Assured Housing list. This housing may be in an on-campus residence hall or a college-leased property. Students on the Assured Housing list may be assigned a temporary housing assignment and reassigned to a permanent room when a space becomes available.”

As always, may the odds be ever in your favor in your housing selection process.
