North Central College has recently hired a new coach for the men’s soccer team. Vincenzo Fuschino started his position as head coach on Feb. 19.

Fuschino is the 10th head coach in the history of the men’s soccer team. He comes to North Central after 12 seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He was head coach of the women’s soccer team from 2007-2010 and the men’s team from 2007-2018.

His time with the Pioneers led to 129 victories and four trips to the NCAA Division III championship, two of those being his last two seasons with the Pioneers. In 2012 he led the team to a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

Fuschino has been coaching at the high school, club and collegiate levels for more than 20 years. Before his time with the Pioneers he was head coach of the Stoughton High School boys’ and girls’ soccer team from 1996-1999 as well as Madison La Follete High School boys’ team from 2001-2006.

He also played at the national amateur level in his home nation of Italy. From 1980-1985, Fuschino played for Unione Sportiva Melizzano and from 1986-1989 for A.S. Arabia.

“One of the main reasons why I came here is because I see a lot of potential in this program,” said Fuschino.

“My team philosophy is to create a family environment. I believe in team chemistry. If you are able to forge a team into having a family environment, where everybody respects and supports each other you’ll do really well as a team, which is something I will try to establish here at North Central College,” Fuschino said.

In this first season with the team, he hopes to help improve their record from last year. Last year the Cardinal’s went 9-8, including a 4-4 record in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).
