One couple’s journey from Israel to America

0

Raphael and Mariam Hersonskey emigrated to America after retirement in 2009, 20 years after both of their sons moved from Israel to attend college; one as a mathematician and another to finish his residency. This is a story that may resonate with anyone that decided to relocate to another country, where not only is the language foreign to them, but the currency is difficult to transfer.

In this case, the Hersonskeys followed their two children to America and found themselves struggling to transfer their pension from shekels to dollars, and even worse, a shekel is only 28 cents to the American dollar — making it hard for them to care for themselves without their sons’ help. But Mr. Hersonskey says it’s all worth it, knowing how proud he is of his sons making a difference in America.
