How you can help during COVID-19 pandemic

Times are tough. People are out of work, America has over 1.7 million cases of COVID-19 and you’re stuck at home.

But that doesn’t mean you have to use all of your newfound time to watch Netflix. With mass shortages and many places closed for business, companies and individuals are stepping up. Here’s how you can, too.

Donate Blood

Many blood drives have been canceled due to the recent pandemic, and the Red Cross faces a mass shortage. You can call 1-800-RED-CROSS if you are healthy and willing to donate.

Feeding America

Feeding America is just one of many organizations trying to feed the less fortunate, but their network includes over 60,000 food pantries. Both financial and food donations are needed.

Support closed restaurants and bars

Although some local eateries have completely shut their doors for a little while, others are still operating partially, like delivery or carry-out options. Consider buying a gift card or calling for takeout.

Slow the spread

Stay inside as much as possible and wash hands frequently. Even for those who are not concerned about their own well-being, it’s important to remember that your decisions may impact others. Practice social distancing and avoid or cancel large events.

Donate your talents

There is a massive shortage of masks, and many people at home are whipping out their sewing machines to contribute. Although these masks do not qualify as medical-grade, they can help. Masks for Heroes is one resource that is keeping you informed on how to donate. Please reach out to local hospitals to see if they are accepting mask donations and any specifications they may have.

Stay in your state

As some states open, temptation to travel climbs. The desire for a haircut or a meal out is appealing, but it’s important to wait until these services are available closer to home.
