NCC’s first transfers’ tailgate and tour on October 23, welcome new and prospective transfer students to the college. Tables, chairs and canopies were set up behind the Edward Everett Rall House. Currently enrolled transfer students and advisors were present to help NCC’s students make their transition. The football game followed alongside the festivities.

Campus tour and transfer tailgate

The tailgate includes many helpful resources for transfer students, including a tour around the campus. The history of each building, classes and activities offered and helping the new transfer students get their bearings and a sense of NCC’s culture. The tour also discusses living effects like dorm locations, restaurants and mental and physical wellness opportunities.

Talk to a transfer

Current transfer students were present to answer any questions and gave testimony that helped illustrate what makes NCC’s learning environment so unique. The transfer students put a great emphasis on the small class sizes, tight-knit community, the quality resources available and the involved faculty have in the student’s success.

“It feels more inclusive than bigger schools,” says Dylan Harper, ’23.

The students mostly spoke about how NCC’s class size maximum of 35 is a great advantage to learning and accessibility to getting help from professors. The school’s care given to each student and their success was a unique experience coming from a larger institution.

“You could get lost in the sea of people,” Harper said when comparing his old school to NCC.

Further programs

The tailgate was the high point of NCC’s commitment to welcoming transfers. However, this is not the only event welcoming transfer students. An informational meeting took place earlier this month, and later on November 23, the Transfer Happy Hour will take place. The Director of Transfer Admission Nicholas DeFalco and the Director of First Generation Initiatives Julie Carballo have been planning these events to give NCC’s transfers a Cardinal welcome.
