The new Center for Career and Professional Development

0

The Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) will be undergoing a few renovations this spring. One major change is the name, which has been changed from Career Development to the Center for Career and Professional Development. The career studio will also be temporarily out of the library due to construction in February 2022. Students can now expect to meet online for help with resumes, internships and career aid through appointments through Handshake.

New placement

The Career Studio used to be located on the main floor of the Oesterle library. As a result of construction in Oesterle library, there will be no drop-in hours. Instead, students can expect there to be appointments through Handshake. Although the CCPD will be virtual this semester, students can still lean on and expect support from staff.

Resume workshops

New workshops will be coming this month during the week of the 14th. Every Tuesday, there will be an internship and job search. This will be an open space for students to be able to drop in and ask questions or concerns they have while searching for an internship or job.

And starting Thursday Feb. 10 students can expect to get help with starting their resumes. Both workshops will be held in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) in room 140. With further assistance on Handshake, students can sign up for 15-30 minute sessions for resume help.

Career feast

Students are also encouraged to attend the virtual career feast Friday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students can sign up for group or individual sessions with employers from a variety of different companies. These jobs include internships, part-time and full-time work. Many industries will be hiring for many different majors.  A Career Prep workshop will be happening on Feb. 8 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in room 140 SBE.

Search for career director and assistant

The Center is currently looking for a new career director and assistant to fill in. Currently, Barabra Fouts, Assistant Director of CCPD, is the only person in the center. Career Peer Advisor positions are still available to apply. The center’s main priority as of now is to make sure that students have enough support and still offer resources. It’s important to talk to someone about any fears or concerns relating to career readiness. The CCPD is a great place for students to figure out their strengths and understand the value of their experiences.

“We are here to support students wherever they are in their career journey. We have a team dedicated to helping students land an internship, job, or graduate/professional school opportunity. Meet with our team for information, guidance, encouragement, and connections that help every student stand out,” said Fouts.
