On the evening of Feb. 3, Tonacity Acappella, an NCC all-female group, has brought love back to campus through an evening of songs, laughter, prizes, and dancing. Before Covid-19, Tonacity upheld The Galentine’s Day Dance. This year marks its revival.

Tonacity’s President, Gabriella Sorrentino, ’25, spoke out on the importance of the return of the Galentine’s Day Dance. Additionally, Sorrentino describes the importance of this event for the NCC community.

“The Galentine’s Day Dance is simply timeless. It’s a time to celebrate love, music, and companionship with the people that have made this school so special to you. February is a stressful time in the year for us students, so the opportunity to just go out for the night and let loose, with absolutely no cost whatsoever, is something to cherish,” said Sorrentino.

Party time

Tonacity proved to be quite the party host. They had Valentine’s Day-themed snacks, and raffles and also had homemade art sales.

In addition to all of these party favors, the evening was full of song, during the event, Whenever Forever, an NCC-originated band of students from the school’s radio station organization, WONC, performed live.

Like any good party, it is always good to hear from the hosts themselves. That said, guests were thrilled to hear Tonacity play seven pop/love songs for the evening.

“Our Galentine’s Day Dance, is an event for everyone, not just for members of our group, but for anyone who wants to go out and get their groove on,” said Sorrentino.

Abigail Hohman, ’23, took that advice and went out and had some fun of her own.

“This semester is my first semester living on campus. I haven’t really been able to see or be a part of any of the events put on by student organizations. I decided to come to the dance to hear some good music and to put myself in a good mood. Tonacity definitely succeeded in fulfilling my objective. I had a blast and haven’t been able to stop playing all of the joyful tunes that I heard that night throughout my mind,” said Hohman.

Night of togetherness

The night concluded with a group number by Tonacity, singing “This is Going Down” by Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco. One final raffle winner was announced, and then the evening turned into a late-night jam session. The lights went down and everyone celebrated together, in love.

“We’re really proud of this event. We looked at each other and said, we did this,” said Sorrentino.
