Farmers Market of Local Food at NCC

On March 23, North Central College Dining Services had its very own farmers market at the Wentz Concert Hall Lobby open to all students and faculty.

At the lobby entrance was a sign-in table where a student would present their school id. Once signed in there were three different amounts of bonus bucks a student could choose. Students received a free reusable bag to use when buying at the market

At the first table, there were a variety of different fruits and vegetables to choose from. There were pre-packaged boxes of carrots with ranch and celery sticks with peanut butter. They cost from $1 to $2 at the stand. Students could mix and match the different fruits, from apples to pears and berries. Fruit bundles cost from $4.50 with the students picking out their very own fruits.

There were also different tables there that each offered their unique products. The Coffee Lab table offered a variety of products such as handmade bracelets and keychains, flavored chocolate bars from Guatemala, coffee bean packages, chocolate-covered nuts, and more. Prices for these products varied from $2 to $5.

Erika Schoeller, ’24, started her own sticker business during the pandemic. Her business has since grown, and decided to come to the market and sell her products at her own table.

“This has always been a passion project of mine so I thought I would come here and share some of my sticker designs,” said Schoeller.

Anna Jensen, ’24, came to the market to pick up a few things.

“I’ve always been a big fan of farmers markets and so when I heard NCC was going to have their own I knew I had to come and check it out and I’m so glad I did,” said Jensen.

The farmers market will likely return again next year in the spring.
