Despite starting the season off with a win and a team effort from buzzer to buzzer, the North Central College men’s soccer team dropped two games last week, falling 1-2 to the Dominican University Stars on Wednesday and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers 0-1 on Saturday.

In Wednesday night’s matchup, North Central struck back six minutes into the first when Karl Bappert (’18) scored a header off of Ryan O’Deen’s (’18) corner kick, responding to Iven Hernandez’s goal for the Stars in the first four minutes. Dominican soon took the lead back 26 minutes in with a second goal from Hernandez off of an assist from teammate Zack Venzon.

All three goals were netted within the first 30 minutes of the game, and the contest remained scoreless until the final buzzer.

The Cardinals hoped to bring home a victory on the road at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday, but could not find the back of the net despite attempts from seniors Nick Barstatis (’16), Nick Tiedt (’16), and Evan Landmark (’16). North Central fell 0-1 and moved to 1-6 for the season.

The next match is set for Sept. 22 when the Cardinals, looking to break the losing streak, travel to the University of Chicago. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
