NCC football beats North Park in a record-setting day

Sophomore running back Austin Breunig (’18) led the way for the North Central Cardinals Saturday with 221 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, including a 72 yard trek with1:27 left in the first half. He sparked the Cardinals to win the game 47-20 over College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) competitors, the North Park University Vikings.

Along with Breunig’s explosive offensive play, the rest of the Cardinal offense had a record setting day racking up 693 total yards. The total is over double the yardage the Vikings managed to earn.

Even though 398 of those yards came on the ground, the Cardinals passing attack did damage to the Vikings as well. With the dual threats of junior Dylan Warden (’17) and freshmen Justin Hunniford (’19) at quarterback, they took turns targeting their diverse receiving corps and passed for a total of 295 yards.

Junior Alex Ulmer (’17), one of the star receivers for the Cardinals, made a circus one handed catch for 28 yards that fueled a drive capped off by a one yard touchdown run by senior Matt Randolph (’16).

The Cardinals are looking to keep their CCIW victory streak going next week when they travel up to Kenosha, Wis., to face the Carthage College Red Men.
