Recap: Men’s soccer breaks even last week

The North Central College men’s soccer team hosted the Augustana College Vikings in another close Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match up on Oct. 21.

The Cardinals scored a late goal to come away with their fourth win of the season. North Central’s Justin De Boer played well, walking away with six saves and no goals allowed.

The match remained scoreless for the entire first half, and most of the second half with the only score of the game in the 84th minute from Erik Gustafson off of the Vikings’ red card, which led to a penalty kick goal by the Cardinals’ Evan Landmark (’16).

North Central improved to 4-11 on the season and Augustana dropped to 4-10-1. The Cardinals continue CCIW play against the Wheaton College Thunder on October 24. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. in Wheaton.

On Saturday the 24th, the Cardinals continued CCIW play against the Wheaton College Thunder. North Central fell to 3-2 in conference play and Wheaton improved to 4-1 in the CCIW as the Thunder claimed a 2-0 victory over the Cardinals.

Justin De Boer (’17) was able to make four saves for North Central, but allowed two goals. The first half was scoreless, but the Thunder boomed with two goals in the second half.

Wheaton improved to 10-3-1 and North Central fell to 4-12 on the season. The Cardinals continue their CCIW road trip on October 28, when they will travel to Decatur, Ill. to take on the Millikin University Big Blue.
