Cardinals take down #2-ranked Elmhurst Bluejays

The North Central College Cardinal men’s basketball team had a big reason to celebrate this weekend as they took down the No. 2 nationally ranked Elmhurst College Bluejays in an impressive fashion. Gregory Arena was packed with a season-high attendance of 2,100 fans.

The game had only one lead change the entire game as the Bluejays opened up with a quick layup and the Cardinals answered back immediately with a three pointer by sophomore forward Erwin Henry, taking the lead 3-2 and never allowing the Bluejays back on top the rest of the game. The Cardinals sent the Bluejays home with a score of 80-62.

All five of North Central’s starters earned double-digits points, including a 20-point showing by junior guard Jagger Anderson. The biggest story of the game was the team shooting percentages, as the Cardinals shot 51.9 percent from the field and the Bluejays just a mere 34.8 percent.

The Cardinals are currently riding a four-game winning streak after a win against Millikin University down in Decatur on January 27. The Cardinals are flying high at an overall record of 14-5, and a 6-1 conference record. Jumping from a No. 25 ranking to No. 17 in the nation on D3Hoops.com following their victory over the Bluejays.
