The 66th Grammy Awards aired on CBS Feb. 4. There were memorable performances as well as wins that made history. Trevor Noah was the host and made jokes from doors on airplanes to football fans not liking the screen time Taylor Swift gets at football games. It was an incredible night, and there is much to cover. Let’s take a look at some highlights at this year’s Grammys.

Performances

The Grammys had incredible performances by a range of artists. To open the show, Dua Lipa performed several of her songs, one of which was “Houdini.” Some other performances include Olivia Rodrigo singing “Vampire,” while having blood dripping down her arm. SZA performed a few songs, including “Kill Bill.” Billie Eilish performed her song “What Was I Made For?” and Miley Cyrus performed her hit song “Flowers.” Travis Scott performed as well.

In addition, the Grammys had some historic performances. Billy Joel performed a new song, which is his first new song in three decades. In fact, at the end of the night, Joel closed the show with another performance. Also, Joni Mitchell performed for the first time at the Grammy’s, despite being a 12-time Grammy award-winning artist. This was the first year that the Afrobeats genre was performed at the Grammys. This performance featured Burna Boy along with Brandy and 21 Savage.

Awards

Mariah Carey presented the first award of the night, which was for Best Pop Solo Performance. Cyrus won for her song “Flowers.” In fact, this was the first Grammy Cyrus has ever won. Some other firsts were Karol G and Lainey Wilson. Karol G won for her album “Mañana Será Bonito,” under the category of Best Música Urbana Album. Wilson’s album “Bell Bottom Country” won for Best Country Album.

Additionally, Lionel Richie presented Song Of The Year. Eilish won this category for her song “What Was I Made For? (From The Motion Picture ‘Barbie’)” and she also won for Best Song Written For Visual Media. Lizzo presented the award that SZA won, which is Best R&B Song for her song “Snooze.” SZA had nine nominations, which was the most of any other artist at the Grammys this year. She also won two other awards. Best New Artist went to Victoria Monét. She won two other awards as well.

Meryl Streep and her son-in-law Mark Ronson were the presenters for Record Of The Year, which was won by Cyrus for her song “Flowers.” Jay-Z received the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award and was accompanied on stage by his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. Noah presented this award.

Killer Mike won Best Rap Album for his album “Michael.” He won two other awards as well. Furthermore, MusiCares Person Of The Year went to Jon Bon Jovi. Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical was awarded to Jack Antonoff for the third consecutive year.

History made

Céline Dion presented the award for Album Of The Year. The artist who won Album Of The Year is the one and only Taylor Swift. Swift made history with this win. She has won this award four times; no other artist has won this award that many times. Formerly, Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder were all tied with Swift.

Earlier that night, Swift also won Best Pop Vocal Album for her album “Midnights.” During her speech, Swift announced that she is releasing a new album called “The Tortured Poets Department” which is coming out on April 19. Additionally, if this sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because Swift announced “Midnights” during her 2022 VMAS acceptance speech for Video of the Year.

Controversy

These are some of the controversies that took place at this year’s Grammys. After winning three Grammys, the arrest of Killer Mike took place following an incident that occurred. Swift didn’t acknowledge Dion during her Album Of The Year win which caused some controversy. SZA did not win Album Of The Year, which upset people, since her album did really well on the Billboard charts.

Jay-Z’s acceptance speech also caused controversy. Jay-Z mentioned that not once has his wife Beyoncé been awarded Album Of The Year, even though she holds the record for most Grammy wins ever.

All in all, Feb. 4 was a night that made history through performances as well as awards. The Grammys 2024 was a memorable one involving laughs, music, of course, and don’t forget about the fashionable outfits! Hopefully, by reading this, viewers can take a look back at some of their favorite Grammy moments or even find out about new ones.
