Closed since last summer and for half of this fall term, Freshens is finally open for business starting Thursday, Oct. 27, in its new location: the lobby of Res/Rec.

“I’m really excited. I’m excited that I don’t have to walk all the way to the Cage, especially in this weather. It’s more convenient for me since I literally live upstairs,” said Micaela Cleland, a senior majoring in accounting and a resident assistant at Res Rec.

Freshmen Brandon Lockhart, majoring in actuarial science, said that he was unaware of Freshens prior to its reopening. Deonta Jones, a freshmen majoring in biochemistry, added, “I guess it’s still convenient for us because we both live in the middle of the campus. All we have to do is walk down the hill to get our smoothie.”

For those familiar with Freshens, a surprise awaits: new menu items. Maureen Jones, a junior majoring in human resources and psychology said, “I’m really excited about the new, extended menu. But to be honest, I’m more excited about crepes.”

Here are latest additions to the Freshens menu:

  • Crepes: If you love crepes, prepare to get your filling. There are three different categories to choose from: savory crepes, breakfast crepes, and dessert crepes.
  • Stuffed baguettes: Do you like gourmet appetizers? Then this option is for you; Freshens has five options available for you. Remember, the more stuffed, the better.
  • Salads: If you like to balance your diet, Freshens also offers a variety of salads: Roadhouse BBQ Chicken, Strawberry and Kale, The Greek, Buffalo Chicken, Grilled Chicken Caesar, Southwest Chipotle Chicken. You can also create your own.
  • Mac & cheese: If you’re tired of microwaving mac and cheese, don’t worry, Freshens has your back with five different options to choose from.
  • Rice bowls: Freshens now provides a variety of rice bowls: Spicy Korean, Mexicano, Classic Hummus, KC BBQ and more.
