2016-2017 TV characters who rock fashion

One of the greatest appeals about watching TV, for me, is the wardrobe. Costume designers give serious thoughts on how to dress the characters. Clothing is an expression of character, and it’s evident that costume designers carefully take this into consideration when dressing the actors. The 2016-2017 TV season is still ongoing, but I am amazed at all the wardrobe on shows that I watch and do not watch. For shows like “Once Upon a Time,” “Scream Queens,” “The Flash,” “Pretty Little Liars” and “Modern Family,” viewers see a variety of different fashion trends. TV show fashion inspires everyday people in their hunt for clothing, so I took a look at 5 characters and shows with unique and great fashion taste.

  1. Emma Swan played by Jennifer Morrison (‘Once Upon a Time’)

Over the past six seasons, Emma is usually wearing her signature red leather jacket with jeans. Her character is known for her laid back style; however, in the winter finale of season six, viewers were able to see Emma in her royal robes. My favorite outfit from this season was her white dress and fur robe with hints of black feathers within the fur. Bonus: the robe had a hood. The outfit was simple, but had a classic look to it.

  1. The Chanels played by Emma Roberts, Billie Lourde & Abigale Breslin (‘Scream Queens’)

Part of “Scream Queens” appeal is definitely the wardrobe worn by the three main characters on the show. They’re usually seen wearing frilly, pink outfits. In the picture featured, each of the Chanels have their own distinct and outrageous style. Since season two was set in a hospital setting, the Chanels managed to completely transform their boring scrubs into their own unique style. I love the pastel colors and the use of belts, shawls and peplums to make each costume their own brand.

        3. Iris West played by Candice Patton (‘The Flash’)

According to fans of “The Flash,” Iris West has some killer fashion sense. As seen below, her style is casual yet edgy. My favorite aspect of this outfit is the suit-like jacket with a patterned skirt and a tank with negative space. It’s a simple outfit, but it’s certainly an outfit that I would love to wear.

  1. Aria Montgomery and Hanna Marin played by Lucy Hale and Ashley Benson (‘Pretty Little Liars’)

Despite my very limited knowledge of the show, I do know that the costume designer for this show is spectacular. Browsing photos from the 2016 season, I was stunned at how many outfits I wanted to steal from that set. In the picture displayed below, Aria wears two different patterns on her top and bottoms. Usually colliding two different fabric patterns can be distracting, however, I love the combination on her. Hanna’s outfit is a bit more subdued, but I love it. From the high collared blouse to the suit jacket to the printed, flowered pants, this outfit is classy, but fun. Also, the red lipstick makes the outfit pop.

  1. Haley Dunphy played by Sarah Hyland (‘Modern Family’)

Out of all the characters on the show, Haley definitely has the best wardrobe. In the picture featured, she wears a calf-length dress with a v-neckline. Paired with heeled sandals, this outfit is the perfect amount of classy and edgy. I love how the dress isn’t skintight nor is it flowy. It’s a blend of both which makes me like the dress even more.
