North Central football: top 3 players to watch in week 5

0

This weekend, the fifth-ranked North Central Cardinals (4-0) take on the North Park University Vikings (1-4) at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville. North Central football remains unbeaten on the season and also looks to extend their 17-game regular season winning streak, dating back to 2015.

So before the Cardinals kick-off, we’re highlighting three North Central players primed to make an impact on the field this weekend.

1. Dominick Muoghalu (RB-sophomore) #28

Muoghalu has burst out of the gate in the 2017 season, rushing for eight touchdowns in his first four varsity games. For perspective, those eight end-zone trips are already more than any Cardinals back rushed for in 2016. The 5-foot-6-inch, 203-pound power running back is best utilized in the red zone for the Cardinals, punching in most of his touchdowns from under five yards out. Six of those scores have come in the last two games, so look for Muoghalu to keep racking up trips to the end zone this weekend at home.

2. Andrew Kamienski (WR-freshman) #11

Only a freshman, Kamienski has caught 20 passes so far this season for the Cardinals. He has caught four or more passes in every one of the first four games, as well as snagging passes of more than 20 yards in each. Kamienski also makes plays for North Central on special teams, including a 60-yard punt return at Millikin University. With the loss of senior receiver Ryan Kuhl week three, watch for Kamienski to make his presence felt more and more in the Cardinals’ offense.

3. Matt Taylor (DL-junior) #90

When Taylor last took the field for the Cardinals in the 2014 season he was a backup offensive lineman and played on special teams. But, in his return this season, Taylor has evolved into a force on the Cardinals’ defensive front. With four tackles for a loss and two sacks in the last three games, the junior is in position to wreak even more havoc in the backfield this week against a North Park University. The Vikings squad rushed for a whopping negative eight yards and was sacked eight times in a loss to Millikin last week.

Watch the undefeated North Central College Cardinals football team take the field at 1 p.m. this Saturday against the North Park University Vikings at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville.
