0

As fall term comes to an end, it is worth looking back at some of the achievements North Central College’s sports teams have made.

Women’s Triathlon
The triathlon team continued their success as they won their second straight team national championship. Katherine Canfield, ‘19, also won the Division III individual national championship as well, with Naomi Hill, ‘21, and Grace Miller, ‘20, finishing in fourth and fifth. These awards bring NCC a 36th team national title and a 132nd individual national title.

Women’s Tennis
A record three All-CCIW selections were given as Diana Barcelata, ‘19, Hannah Hougland, ‘22, and Alaina Kanthaphixay, ‘22, received the honors. This is the first time in the program’s history that multiple players have been selected. Hougland also landed Newcomer of the Year, starting a promising future for the program.

Men’s Cross Country
The men’s cross country team added to their CCIW title streak, winning their 45th straight. The team has been led this season by seniors Dhruvil Patel, Al Baldonado, Matt Norvell and Zach Hird, ‘19. They are seeking their 19th national championship this weekend on Nov. 16, which would add to head coach Al Carius’ legacy.

Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer team was able to find their way to fifth in the regional rankings. They reached the CCIW semi-final game where they were defeated by North Park. Alex Flores, ‘20, Gavin Sanchez, ‘19, and Austin Lombardi, ‘21, received CCIW all-conference selections.

Football
NCC’s football team finished their regular season with a record of 9-1 and received a share of their 14th CCIW championship. They have earned yet another spot in the playoffs as well. They enter the first round ranked ninth in Division III and will host Hanover College on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
