Students lead march, protest to raise awareness

Another racial bias incident has occurred on the campus of North Central College.

The incident involves a male freshman resident. On a whiteboard hanging on the outside of the student’s dorm, he wrote, “Countdown to Halloween Costume Idea #6: A Founding Father. Needs: Be a rich, white, land-owning male. A plantation (slaves included).” The message also had a stick-figure drawing of the costume.

The incident first garnered attention on social media, where another student tweeted a photo of the message and their disappointment in it.

In response to the message, students led a march on Thursday afternoon. Students walked from the Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium to the Jefferson Plaza where they finished with a “die-in.” Members of BSA also attended the demonstration.

Additionally,  BSA hosted its usual Thursday meeting but opened it up to the entirety of campus. Members of NCC administration were also present at the meeting.

This story was edited  to clarify BSA’s role in the student demonstration.
