Renovations continue on Oesterle Library in the spring semester. The library’s physical building closed on Feb. 1. According to an email memo sent to students, the closure is scheduled until April 17.
Temporary services
Meanwhile, library staff will currently offer limited services in Larrance Academic Center (LAC) Room 1. These limited services will include pick-up and return of I-Share and Interlibrary Loan materials, access to course reserve materials, and in-person assistance with references and research.
These are the hours for the services in the LAC:
Mondays – Thursdays: 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Fridays: 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Services will not be available during the weekend. However, hours for reference and research assistance slightly differ. Those hours are Mondays through Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Student-orientated updated
Moreover, students will get new study spaces according to Melissa Proulx, the coordinator of digital and outreach services at Oesterle Library. The current renovations will include installing several new study areas. These will include study pods for individuals and group study rooms equipped with projectors and computers.
In addition, more student services such as; the Writing Center, Speaking Center, Career Development, and Student Advising and Success, will be located in Oesterle library.
“This process has been so student-oriented, making sure that we’re considering how student would want to use this space,” said Proulx.
Impact on student workers
Oesterle Library currently employs around 16 student workers. As of now, they are helping staff the services in the LAC. However, all of their student workers are working on reduced hours.
One student worker, Hannah Osborn, ’22, typically works around 15 hours a week at the library. Now, with renovations in process, she is working only five hours a week. “I decided to get another job at Jojo’s (Shake Bar),” said Osborn.
Only Oesterle library’s lower level will reopened on April 17, while renovations continue on the upper levels. The whole building will reopen before the start of the Fall 2022 semester, once the project is fully completed.
