Blink-182 has reunited with Tom DeLonge and will be going on tour and releasing a new album.

This is a huge announcement for the Blink-182 fanbase. Many members have been waiting for years since DeLonge’s departure back in 2015. Things weren’t looking great with the arrival of Alkaline Trio‘s Matt Skiba, who filled in on two of the band’s albums, “California and “Nine“. It seemed that Skiba would continue his tenure with the band until more rumors hinted at the return of DeLonge. There was even an announcement about a new album being worked on with the band continuing with Skiba. Even with that announcement, fans speculated about a reunion and the return of a good relationship in the band.

Previous separations

Blink-182 has been around since the 1990s, putting out a total of seven albums and one extended play record (EP) with DeLonge. Five of those albums reached the top 10 in the U.S. charts. The band did take multiple breaks before first separating in the early 2000s due to disagreements between the band. After a plane crash that nearly killed drummer Travis Barker, the band made amends and got back together to write and release the album “Neighborhoods. This reunion didn’t last long; the band would only put out one more EP with DeLonge before he departed from the group again.

The band then had Skiba fill in and eventually join the band on two studio albums. These albums did well commercially, but it divided the fans due to a different sound and a new singer altogether. Blink-182 was gearing for another release with Skiba, but the coronavirus pandemic put those plans on pause. Then there were no new updates on an album for a while from Blink-182 until there was an announcement that was bigger than the band itself.

The rock show’s comeback

Things seemed to start coming back together after bassist Mark Hoppus’s announcement of his cancer diagnosis. Though a very scary time for all, the trio seemed to mend the burned bridges and come back together during this period. Since the announcement of being cancer free, Hoppus has been teasing new music for Blink-182. He even announced the album they had previously worked on was scrapped. This led to speculation from the fanbase  about a reunion with DeLonge. Not to mention, DeLonge announced the hiatus of his other project “Angels and Airwaves“, adding more fuel to the speculations.

On Oct. 11, Blink-182 put out a video announcing a reunion tour as well as a single, releasing on Oct. 14. The single, “Edging“, has fans praising it as a fun return to classic Blink-182. It features a mix of DeLonge and Skiba’s writing and singing.

This single will eventually lead to the release of a new record in the near future. Whether this will lead to more albums to come from the trio is unknown. For now, fans rejoice in the release of “Edging” and the tour that will start in March of 2023.
