Illinois to soon see impending third surge of COVID-19

0

Naperville has recently seen a surge in COVID-19 cases. Additionally, as of Oct. 16, the number of counties in Illinois at Warning Level for COVID-19 has increased from eight to 34. NCC has had six new positive cases since our last report. These updates have been recorded on the school’s official test results website.

Required face coverings, social distancing, online learning and contract tracing have made NCC fortunate enough to experience a lull in cases. Without the cooperation of the student body through these guidelines, we would not be as fortunate in our test results.

DuPage County Health Department

The DuPage Country Health Department website is home to live-updated information regarding cases of COVID-19. It displays individual test results per city within the county. According to the updates presented, Naperville has surged up to 1,515 COVID-19 cases. This places Naperville at the highest count of cases of any city within DuPage County. They are just ahead of Addison with 1,464 cases.

Illinois Department of Public Health

The Illinois Department of Public Health recently reported the following Illinois counties to be at a warning level for COVID-19:

Adams, Alexander, Boone, Cass, Christian, Clay, Clinton, Crawford, DeKalb, DeWitt, Jasper, Jefferson, Jo Daviess, Johnson, Kane, Lee, Macon, McDonough, McHenry Mercer, Monroe, Pike, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Stephenson, Union, Vermilion, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Whiteside, Will, Winnebago.

While the IDPH did not report DuPage County within their recent article, DuPage County remains at warning level within the category “New Cases” on the IDPH County Metrics page. DuPage County COVID-19 cases remain above the target. They have 119 cases per 100,000 reported, which is over double the target goal of 50 cases per 100,000.

DuPage Country, specifically Naperville, borders two of the warning level counties: Kane and Will. Additionally, Illinois’ northern neighbors in Wisconsin are reported as experiencing an extreme surge with an overwhelming 22,821 new cases per seven days.

Due to the increase of reported cases in Wisconsin, Kane County, Will County and Naperville, the third surge of COVID-19 is impending at NCC. Through continued vigilant adherence to COVID-19 protocols and guidelines by all students, NCC should push through the third surge.
