James Gunn ushers in the new DCU

DC Comics has been struggling with its movie department for a long while now. They have had trouble with their franchise due to issues with switching directors, firing actors and rebooting. Things seem to be coming to coming into place, however, under the new leader, James Gunn. He recently introduced the first chapter of the DCU: “Gods and Monsters”.

“Superman: Legacy”

“Superman: Legacy” will be the first movie released. The movie will be written by Gunn. He also recently confirmed that he will direct the film. Henry Cavill, who previously played the part of Superman, will not return to the role. They have yet to recast the character.

Pictures posted on Gunn’s twitter suggest that the movie will be based on the famous comic “All-Star Superman”. Currently, the release date for the movie is July 11, 2025.

“The Authority”

“The Authority” will be a movie about a superhero team intent on completing their mission, no matter what. This movie will be based on the comic book of the same name from DC’s WildStorm print, created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch.

Gunn seemed very eager about this project, even calling it “a passion project of his.” He also said that “it’ll be a different look at superheroes.”

“The Brave and the Bold”

“The Brave and the Bold” will be the introduction to this universe’s version of Batman. Unfortunately, for fans of the 2020 “The Batman” film, Robert Pattinson will not star in this one. Pattinson’s Batman will be labeled as a DCU Elseworld story.

This movie will take place well into Batman’s career, where he meets his son Damian for the very first time. This will be the first on-screen rendition of Damian Wayne.

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”

This movie has sparked conversation across the DCU fanbase. Unlike most of the other upcoming releases, it will be a science fiction movie, because the comics it is based on, created by Tom King, are of that genre. “Woman of Tomorrow” will see a jaded version of the character on a different planet.

It will feature a Supergirl that, Gunn says, “no one has seen before.”

“Swamp Thing”

Swamp Thing is the last movie as of this moment included in this new era. Its announcement has excited DCU fans, because it will be a horror movie. It has the potential to be the movie that “Venom” promised to be, but ultimately failed to deliver on. This will be the only movie that hits the ‘monster’ section of DCU, with the rest of the monsters being in TV shows, for the most part.

Overall, the DCU seems to be on the right track to fixing the unreliability of its movies. The projects listed don’t even include the multitude of shows that will arrive on HBO Max. Fans across the world wait expectantly to see if this will lead to prosperous outcomes for Gunn and DC Comics.
